A:Wow, that backflip was sick!
B:Thanks, I’ve been practicing all winter.

今回は、約25名の学生が参加しました。恒例のゲームもあって、とても盛り上がりました。

Nickさんは、毎月イベントを開催します。次回は6月27日(金曜日)のお昼休み、テーマは「American Music」です。県大生のみなさん、次回をお楽しみに!

During the lunch break on Thursday, April 26th, we held the second monthly event by World Café instructor Nick.

The theme this time was "American slang".
Isn't it dangerous to hear slang words? This time, we don`t use them seriously, but it seems that these expressions are often heard between friends or on drama TV shows. I can't say it confidently, but are they close to the expressions such as "MAJI?" and "CHOU 〇〇" in Japan?

These have completely different meanings from the Japanese translation of the words, which is very interesting.

For example, "ankle biter". In the impression of the letters, is it "clinging to one's parents"? I thought so, but in fact, it seems to mean a "small dog" or "child" that moves quickly and annoyingly around one`s lower legs.
Also, "sick," translated literally into Japanese means "illness", but the meaning is rather the opposite of "illness," it means "awesome" and "cool."
Here's an example of how Nick introduced "sick" with a photo of a snowboard jump. If you translate it as "illness," you certainly don't understand the meaning.
A: Wow, that backflip was sick!
B: Thanks, I ’ve been practicing all winter.

About 25 students participated this time. There was also an monthly game and it was very exciting.

Nick holds an event every month. Next time it will be during lunch break on Monday, June 27th, and the theme is "American music". Prefectural university students, look forward to next time!
