In Japan's aging society with its falling birthrate, there has been a growing emphasis on the concepts of team medicine and community medicine. Our school offers inter-department subjects to both nursing and social welfare majors, allowing them to study together and share their knowledge. Students have opportunities to take classes in both specialties to encourage cooperation and collaboration with those in other professional fields. Students do research on theories and practical skills relevant to providing the best assistance to others. The program for nursing majors has been approved as a course for certified nurse specialists in chronic care, the first of its kind in the Hokuriku region. It provides subjects essential for the development practical skills as well as the ability to perform a comprehensive range practices as advanced nurse specialists.
As many of the students in this school are already working as professionals, the school also schedules classes at night and on Saturdays with consideration given to a work-education balance. Furthermore, it offers programs designed to improve students' practical capabilities by having them review their past practice and supports them in theorizing on their own clinical experience to help improve on their future performance. The school also promotes ties and exchanges with various facilities in the prefecture by accepting applicants from hospitals, medical and welfare facilities and governmental institutions.
Both programs develop human resources that play an important role in improving clinical practices as researchers, educators, instructors or high-standard professionals.
Major Programs in the Graduate School of Nursing and Social Welfare Science
Major in Nursing Science (Master's Program)
This program conducts scientific studies on general daily nursing skills and research in various areas, including the meaning of health and disease for patients and their families and for community residents, self-care behavior, and the relationship between a restricted lifestyle and the ability to live. It also conducts research in areas related to professional nursing practices, such as nursing education, nursing management and nursing practice assessment. The research methods in this program vary in approach and include coverage of experiments, epidemiology, social psychology, and so on.
Major in Social Welfare Science (Master's Program)
The range of research subjects in this program extend to a variety of welfare-related areas, including social welfare, welfare for the elderly, preventive care, mental health welfare, welfare for the disabled, labor welfare, and the welfare environment. Various types of research are conducted through unique approaches from the viewpoint of assistance skills, such as casework and group work, social policy, and social surveys. For those who actually work as professionals and have extensive experience of social work, the program offers opportunities for practical research based on theorization of their experience.
